FMA Conference in Denver

If you are attending the FMA conference next week (October 19-22) in Denver and you have a finance lab or are considering a finance lab please stop by the Rise booth (#2 and #3) and say hello.

Interactive Content Design Suggestion

One mistake many people make when starting to define the design for their interactive display is attempting to do too much. Technically yes it is possible to put up maps, directories, RSS feeds, videos, announcements, and countless other pieces of content. But the question is by trying to do everything, does it accomplish what you want?

If your primary goal is to recognize key donors do you want that message to get watered down or lost amongst all of the other content?

Here is a really simple example. If you want to search for something online you can go to Yahoo – where you may get distracted with the latest news, weather, sports scores, dating advice, etc. Or you can go to Google – where all you see is a giant search box.

Yahoo is a fantastic information portal, but I think we can all see why Google is the number one search engine. When you want to create an interactive experience for your users define your top 2 to 3 goals and then work to keep your content simple and elegant. If down the road you want to add to it you always can, that is the beauty of digital signage.

Video Wall Installation Example

Below is a photo of a recent video wall installation at a professional financial trading firm on the west coast. The video wall utilizes the latest NEC X551un displays with 5.5mm bezels to ensure the best possible picture quality and the least obstruction of bezels between screens. This display is 3 lcds wide by 2 lcds tall making the overall dimensions 54″ tall by 144″ wide and is tied back to a HDMI matrix router controlled via a touch screen that allows the traders to easily switch between live Reuters data and TV sources.

Virtual Lab Manger for University Finance Labs

Technology is rapidly evolving as a result of new social networking sites and creative methods of computing. 1000 Followers – now what?

We set a goal of getting to that magical milestone of 1000 followers on Twitter a few months back and started tweeting daily (even on weekends!) to connect with people.

It has been entertaining but now what? We wish all 1000 of those were our clients, partners etc, but find some of them want me to check out their webcam, provide me with credit, or help me lose weight.

To those of you that followed and helped us reach the goal – Thank you! Hopefully we can continue to provide provide updates and content of interest on the developments with our digital signage products.

Example of an Info Wall

Interactive displays provide a whole new world of flexibility and complexity. There are so many possibilities it is hard to keep it simple to provide a great user experience.

We find it helps to look at examples of what others are doing so you can get ideas. The following is a rendering of an interactive Info Wall that will be installed shortly for a university. The content is obviously plugged in and not their actual as of yet, but it helps you see how a university can create a fun interactive experience to share pictures and news while a simple navigation on the bottom provides access to maps, directories, events and more.
