Auburn U. College of Business uses digital signs and live feeds to immerse its students in the global economy
As a world-class institution with an eye to the future, the Auburn University College of Business places special emphasis on both the role of technology and the impact of a global economy. That, according to the College’s Director of Advancement Christopher Dyba, explains why they’ve now started using electronic displays to broadcast live financial information on campus. “The installation of digital signage displays in the College is another step toward using technology to immerse students in the global world of business,” says Mr. Dyba. “The four flat-panel installations feature live-feed screens of business information, including trading market indices, exchange rates, and other business market information.” The LCD displays are located within the most heavily trafficked areas of College of Business, and the live-feed information that they provide is geared primarily for current and prospective students and faculty. Mr. Dyba says that their displays also function as an effective venue for internal communication. “In addition to market indices, financial information, and news feeds, the displays also feature campus information,” he continues. “This includes studentrequested information and academic updates, but the screens can also be adapted easily to communicate campus-wide emergency information.” College administrators can make their own changes to the signs’ messages using the Rise Display Network, an online sign content management system provided by Rise Display as part of their complete display solution for the University. Mr. Dyba says they chose Rise because they saw a good fit: “The College knew its technology requirements upfront – it needed an easy-to-use, web-driven content management system as well as the live feeds of stock, news, and financial information. In addition, Auburn was looking ahead to the next phase of its expansion, which involves a live trading lab in the classroom environment. Rise Display has significant experience deploying technology in both phases to business schools nationwide, making it the first choice for Auburn University.” Though the signs are still new, they are already bringing benefits to the College. “These digital displays are helping the College achieve its goal of bringing the real-world business environment into the classroom,” says Mr. Dyba, “and helping students understand the importance of current financial and global business news as part of their business education. The students are taking in information, almost by osmosis, which they will need to be aware of for the rest of their business careers.” As further proof of the signs’ value to the College of Business, Mr. Dyba points to all the positive comments they’ve received to date, from everyone involved. “Student and faculty feedback has been unanimously positive, and the private donor who funded the project is also extremely pleased with the installation.” |
