 Lehigh University recreates Wall Street on campus with electronic displays from Rise Display
Lehigh University is located within the thriving economic and cultural corridor of the eastern United States, just 50 miles north of Philadelphia and 75 miles southwest of New York City. At its picturesque 1600-acre wooded campus, undergraduate and graduate students experience challenging programs in four distinct colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Engineering and Applied Science, and Education.
When the University’s College of Business and Economics started looking into the use of electronic displays, their primary goal was to recreate the look and feel of an authentic trading floor in the classroom. To achieve that goal, they chose Rise Display to provide them with all the necessary components.
With our Complete Display Solution, Lehigh quickly gained the ability to simulate a very convincing Wall Street environment right within their business classrooms. In addition to recommending and supplying all the right components to make their displays a reality, we also provide hosting services for all their messages, and creative services to make those messages come alive on the screens.
Switching to electronic displays from their previous method of communication, which they describe as "posters taped to walls", has transformed the way that Lehigh University looks and communicates. In the rotunda outside their third floor Financial Services Lab, an LCD display now welcomes and beckons students, parents, and visitors into the College’s trading room environment. Inside the Lab, a Rise Tracker LED wallboard displaying financial data is strategically situated on a side wall of the classroom. On another wall, an 8 foot long Rise Twin Ticker shows stock quotes and news, further adding to the trading room ambiance. And downstairs in the main entrance lobby, two additional 40" LCD displays, ceiling-mounted back to back, help to spread the University's messages beyond the Financial Services Lab to everyone who enters the building. In addition to showing live financial data, the various displays also show College news, student group announcements, and ads recognizing vendor donations.
According to the University’s Bob Kendi, adding electronic displays to their campus has had a very positive effect. “We’ve had a favorable response from all of our stakeholders: students, parents, alumni, our Development team, and our Admissions team.” Lehigh’s electronic displays have also been well received by their corporate sponsors and alumni from Wall Street. “Our original fund raising target was $1M. With the help of Rise’s display solution, we’ve generated over $9M in cash, pledges, and gifts in kind.” The University plans to build upon this success by adding more displays in the future, to create a complete communications system throughout the campus.
