Stock Trak – University Investment Challenges

One important aspect of a mock trading room is to create an investment challenge for students.  Using a virtual trading platform, such as Stock Trak, students trade stocks, bonds, currencies and more all in real-time.

This fall students at Utica College and Penn State Altoona will be opening brand new mock trading rooms.  In addition to the latest display technology, computers, and trading desks students will get to compete with one another to see who can manage the best returns within their portfolio.  Examples of the branded login pages for each university follow.

Installations are in full swing as several LED Stock Tickers are going into business school trading rooms before the start of the fall semester.

Over the next month we hope to receive photos of these latest rooms to share via this blog – so stay tuned.  As we showed last week in The Growth Pattern of University Trading Rooms post we expect over 40 rooms to open this summer so there should be so great new examples of room designs and uses of technology.  The following are 5 photos we have received this week:

The Economic Function of a Stock Exchange

Financial Market Conference

On October 4th, 2011 Robert Schwartz is organizing “The Economic Function of a Stock Exchange“ at Baruch College.

The Economic Function of a Stock ExchangePurpose

In recent years, exchanges on both sides of the Atlantic have been extensively reengineered, and their organizational structures have changed from non-profit, membership organizations to for-profit, demutualized organizations. Concurrently, new alternative trading systems have emerged and the traditional functions of broker/dealer firms have evolved. How have these changes affected the mission of a stock exchange and an exchange’s ability to deliver on that mission? How has the efficiency of capital raising in the IPO market been impacted? These are among the key questions that the conference will address.
