Shawnee, KS – July 29, 2009 – Rise Display, a provider of integrated solutions for both Video and LED digital signage, announces that Aloft(sm) Hotels, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.’s (NYSE:HOT) new lifestyle brand, has incorporated LED tickers from Rise Display into the design standard for the re: mix lounge area of each of its hotels. Aloft Hotels are designed for the next generation of traveler, and feature multiple technology elements to enhance the guest experience, including the LED tickers from Rise Display. The tickers stream news and entertainment headlines, hotel happenings and promotional messaging, and other pertinent guest information.
“At Aloft, it’s important to our guests to remain connected and in-the-know even while they are on the road,” said Paige Francis, Vice President, Specialty Select Brands, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. “The LED tickers from Rise Display bring our lobbies to life with up-to-the-minute news headlines and relevant hotel information.”
Aloft Hotels is a fast-growing brand for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, with 25 locations currently open and plans to open more than a dozen new locations by year’s end. The hotels feature an urban-influenced, open and airy design, and a vibrant and social guest experience. In addition to news headlines and property information, the tickers feature promotional and branding messages, including special offers from hotel partners, and news of new hotel openings. The LED tickers are easy to program and maintain, which enables Aloft hotel talent to incorporate new ideas quickly and easily.
The Rise Display technology enables Aloft to control the content of the tickers both centrally and locally. Aloft’s corporate marketing office uses the web-based software interface to publish information in all locations simultaneously. In addition, Aloft hotel managers also have the ability to use the interface to add local content to their individual ticker. Aloft frequently updates its tickers using both the central and individual local control options.
“Aloft Hotels is ahead of the curve in terms of using technology to enhance the traveler experience, and we’re excited that the brand has incorporated our LED tickers in its design standard,” said Brian Loosbrock, President, Rise Display. “Today’s travelers demand an ever-connected environment, and LED tickers are a great way to capture attention while delivering topical information to guests.”

LED Ticker completes the decor of the new Business Facility at the University of Illinois
Posted on Mon, July 6, 2009
In 2009, the University of Illinois’ College of Business gained 160,000+ square feet of new building space specially designed “to accommodate state-of-the-art classrooms, career development and academic counseling centers, student program offices, a recruitment suite, a 300-seat auditorium, and space for students to meet and study.”
Known as the Business Instructional Facility, it is the new home for current and future College of Business students and alumni. It is also the first “green” building in the university’s 141-year-old history because of the eco-friendly materials and practices used in its construction, the reduced load it places on campus power and systems, and its reduced impact on the environment.
One prominent feature that contributes significantly to the stunning visual design of the building is a custom-designed curved LED ticker, supplied by Rise Display and prominently displayed in the business school’s new finance lab – the Margolis Market Information Lab.
The director of that lab, Visiting Associate Director Martin Maurer, says that they chose a ticker display in order to give the teaching lab an authentic look and feel. “Our goal with the Market Information Lab was to imitate as closely as possible a real financial trading environment. The ticker display allowed us to add to this feel of our lab.
“The ticker tape is also a great tool to catch people’s attention and raise their curiosity about the lab,” Mr. Maurer explains. “We show real-market stock information as a teaching tool, and also use the display to welcome our corporate partners.”
The College selected Rise Display to supply and install their ticker in large part because of their reputation and positive track record with other universities. “I found out about Rise Display as a result of my visit to Baruch College in New York,” continues Mr. Maurer, “and subsequently suggested it to the Finance department leadership. We knew of Rise’s extensive relationships with other university trading labs, and they were recommended to us by Baruch.”
Since the new Business Instructional Facility opened its doors, the College has received many positive comments about their building in general and their new electronic display in particular. “The custom-made curved Rise Ticker display immediately captures everyone’s attention upon entering the new Business Instructional Facility at Illinois,” says Mr. Maurer.
“Overall we are happy. Kudos to the customer service reps who were always able to help out with any questions we had.”
